THE CALL TO DUTY!
Sister Kiera Leavitt has always wanted to serve a mission!
Kiera was blessed as an infant to serve a mission and her Patriarchal Blessing mentions several times about serving a mission. When the age for girls was lowered, Kiera was ready to go even though she was still years away from age eligibility!
She has planned and worked for it intently over the last 3 years. She set a goal to finish Cosmetology school after graduation from Snow Canyon High School in May 2016. She very seldom missed a day of school because she knew that she would have to make it up and that would extend her time further to be finished as well as possibly costing her more money if she happened to go over her time limit (in which she never even came close to! But she wasn't going to take any chances!)
Kiera graduated from Hairitage Hair Academy in November 2016. Her plan was to work about 6 months so that she would have enough money to support her own mission. So off to work at Fantasic Sam's in Washington. She worked hard and all her tips and nearly all her wages went into savings for her mission fund. In March, right before her birthday, it was felt that she needed not to wait any longer to submit her mission papers, even though she didn't have the full funds yet. Things would work out as needed. So she did and by the near mid/end of March she had her mission interview and her mission papers were submitted.
Kiera's mission call arrived on Friday April 7th. Stephanie at the Santa Clara Post Office called Makayla, (her mothers) cell phone to tell them that the envelope had just arrived. Kiera had already left for work and could not be reached until later that afternoon. Now the suspense of waiting would come to an end and a new beginning of her mission journey!
For Kiera's Temple Recommend Bishop Scott Parry had a small time slot to meet with her before he was to be out of town for 2 weeks. So she ran and met with him and put papers in line for Stake President Dan Frei to sign. Then she went to meet with Pres. Frei when she realized that Bishop Parry had not given her the Temple Recommend. So, she lined up the correct papers with the Stake President and 2nd Counselor Paul Webster. Upon leaving Pres. Frei called her back stating to return to him as he did not sign her recommend! She was feeling a bit superstitious that forces were trying to keep her out of the Temple! Well, it was signed by both Priesthood members and she was on her way to the Temple! And what a glorious session it was to see her and all her family members in white in the Holy Temple! Her mother Makayla was privileged to be her escort and her Uncle David & Aunt Jennifer Leavitt were the witness couple in this endowment session! This did not end for her. Kiera took every advantage to attend the Temple several times in the short 5 1\2 weeks before she left on her mission, even traveling to Salt Lake City with Creedence Nielson for a live session there!
Now the rest of the preparation & shopping begins!

Sister Kiera's Sacrament Farewell Speaking assignment was held on Mothers Day, May 14th at 9:00am. She had many friends and family in attendance for her support- even seating back to the stage in the gym overflow. A quiet openhouse for farewell greetings was held in the home back yard from 1pm to 5pm with a Patatoe Bar & cookies for food serving.

Grandpa John & Grandma Gloria Erdmann are soon on their way to serve their mission in Salem Oregon. Their mission boarders north of the Eugene Oregon.
Kiera had the opportunity to meet her soon-new-to-be Mission President Dale & Sister Orton. They are from Cedar City. Grandma Peggy Leavitt knew him through work assoicaitons when she was at Dixie College and he was at Southern Utah University. It was very fun to make that connection. As well as being quite unusual to meet your mission President and Wife before serving a mission!
